Letter to My Future Self

Dear Future Kyla,

I sincerely hope you are doing what you love. And not letting anyone get you down. In high school you dealt with many people who left you and stopped caring about you.

Now I’m sure you are doing better than they are.

I hope you found someone that loves you and treats you like a queen. I hope they watch the Grinch with you and don’t get mad when you quote the whole thing.

By this time maybe you have grown out of your allergy/asthma problems? And have developed more coping mechanisms for that horrible anxiety/depression you had there?

I hope the best for you. And I hope college went well, maybe you ended up going to that art college you never thought you could go to?

I hope you get to go to tons more concerts and hang out with band members. Possibly photographing some local bands, to build yourself up?

Make sure not to sweat the small stuff. Don’t worry about all of those assholes that pretended to be your friends. But only ended up caring about you when it was for their benefit.

Don’t let anyone make you feel bad for doing what you love. Remember when you used to play sims every single day and thought it was such an embarrassing thing? If you’re still playing sims good job I’m proud of you. You enjoyed that game and shouldn’t let people make you think it’s stupid.

Have you visited your favorite fro-to place recently? Is it still your favorite? I heard when you get older your taste changes.. hopefully not for cake batter fro-yo!

I hope you have an amazing job doing what you love. I know photojournalism is your ultimate goal, I hope you have been working hard to get to it. But atleast you have the vet degree to fall back on (listen to your mother more often).

New friends? I hope so! Remember the time when you only had about 3 friends because everyone stopped talking to you? Remember how terrible it felt?

You probably forgot their existence by now. And you probably have a few more great friends who know everything about you and are always there on your good and bad days.

Make sure you’re happy. You have to take care of yourself, don’t rely on anyone to do anything for you.

Always stay in contact with family, they always will be there for you no matter the circumstance.

I guess that’s it. Oh wait one more thing. Do you still want that yellow mustang you have always dreamed of since you were a kid? I hope you are able to get one one day. Anything is possible. As long as you put your mind to it, you’ll have that yellow mustang girl.

Okay that’s all good luck, don’t let anyone change you. And enjoy yourself.

– Past Kyla
